The ESNCM Wind Band

The ESNCM Wind Band was established during the winter camp in Jericho in 2005. An idea was born to build a wind band, which has now grown in size to include around 35 members. The Wind Band is directed by brass and woodwind tutors from the ESNCM, and the musicians meet for regular weekly rehearsals at branches of the ESNCM, and occasional residential workshops focusing on tailored concert programs, often with invited guest conductors. The repertoire of the wind band includes ceremonial music such as national anthems, all kinds of classical symphonic music, and organ music in special wind band arrangements. Their most recent concert in Ramallah featured arrangements of popular American film music and was conducted by Carlo Mascolo.

The woodwind section of the band includes flutes, oboes, clarinets and bassoons, while the brass section includes trumpets, trombones, French horns, tubas and saxophones. In concert, the woodwind and brass musicians are sometimes joined by an acoustic bass player and percussionists.

The ESNCM Wind Band performed in public for the first time during the Christmas celebrations in Bethlehem in 2006, and regularly performs every year at the ESNCM students’ final graduation concerts in Ramallah, Jerusalem and Birzeit, as well as official, diplomatic and humanitarian occasions in Palestine.
