New cooperation agreement signed

The signing of a cooperation agreement between the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music and the Palestinian community in Dortmund, Germany, is worth noting. It aims to strengthen the cultural partnership between the Conservatory and the Palestinian community in Dortmund through the establishment of an international partnership that supports and strengthens Palestinian culture through music. The articles of this agreement emphasize the importance of teaching music to children and youth, particularly those in Palestinian refugee camps who suffer from difficult economic conditions. It also emphasizes the importance of working to protect and strengthen Palestinian cultural identity through music, as music is an important component of Palestinian culture. In this context, the Palestinian community in Dortmund provided 12 scholarships for the academic year 2021/22 for Conservatory students in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The Edward Said National Conservatory of Music commends this cooperation and stresses the importance of this initiative, especially in light of the declining funding provided to the Palestinian culture sector that has been weak since its foundation. The corona-virus pandemic and its implications for the global economy as well as the keenness to advance the Palestinian cultural scene were the motivating factors that prompted the Palestinian community in Dortmund to engage in this cooperation that has been welcomed by the ESNCM with much appreciation.
