“Out of Equilibrium” by Dina Shilleh (2016)
As part of the educational process and its academic curriculum, the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music holds weekly student concerts in all its branches. Through these performances, students can not only showcase their proficiency and progress on their instrument but also gain the skill to play on stage and learn to overcome stage fright in front of an audience.
While some of these student performances were presented face to face, others were performed on digital and social media platforms due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the related social distancing requirements. Below, we present two performances of compositions by Dina Shilleh, a composer who teaches piano and chamber music at the ESNCM. These movements were arranged by her for student ensembles to allow them to fulfill the Conservatory’s chamber music requirements.
“Out of Equilibrium” by Dina Shilleh (2016)
In this work of four movements, originally composed for guitar, harp, and prepared piano, composer Dina Shilleh uses sounds, rhythmic games, texture, and various compositional styles to explore different states of mind in our somewhat complex reality. The last movement was arranged for a student trio of clarinet, violin, and piano and is performed by clarinet student Nai Abdo, violin student Kareem Barakat, and piano student Yuri Hadeed.
