Branches

There are currently five branches of the ESNCM, located in Jerusalem, Ramallah, Bethlehem, Nablus, and Gaza. Each Branch is run by a branch manager, and employs an academic supervisor and an administrative assistant who handle the day-to-day running of their branch. The branch manager reports to the central Administrative Board in Birzeit, and the academic supervisor is a member of the central Academic Board. This setup makes room for the future opening of new branches on one hand, and on the other hand, it guarantees the same level of education and services to the students and community in whichever city the ESNCM has or opens a branch. In addition the ESNCM has an Activity Center in the town of Birzeit, just north of Ramallah, a Recording Studio in the Ramallah Branch, and a String Instrument Workshop in the Bethlehem Branch.

Ramallah

The first branch to open in 1993, the Ramallah Conservatory has played an important role in the cultural life of the twin cities of Ramallah and Al-Bireh and in Palestine as a whole. It was originally situated on the top floor of the three-story building of the Birzeit University Board of Trustees.  In 2014 the Ramallah Branch moved to its purpose-built premises, on a piece of land donated by the Municipality of Ramallah. As well as teaching and rehearsal rooms and a music library, the branch hosts a 200-seat concert hall, a state-of-the-art recording studio and a cafeteria. In the academic year 2015/16, 315 students are learning music in the Ramallah Branch.

The branch moved to its new permanent home in the renovated historic Shihabi building on the same street in summer 2012. The Jerusalem branch has 320 students enrolled for the academic year 2015/2016, plus another 230 students who participate in the branch's outreach and choirs programs.

Bethlehem

This branch opened in 1997 in cooperation with the International Center of Bethlehem. It was located on that premises in the “Madbasseh” quarter of Bethlehem until 1999, and subsequently relocated several times, before the new building - built on land donated by the Beit Sahour Municipality - was opened in 2012. In the 2015/16 academic year the branch has 164 students enrolled in the branch as well as 153 students participating in the branch's outreach programs in Dheisheh Camp and Hebron.

Nablus

The ESNCM program in Nablus began in 2005, initially as part of the outreach program and in cooperation with a local arts organization, Nablus the Culture. ESNCM provided teachers and musical instruments, and Nablus the Culture provided teaching space and administrative support. The success of the project led the the ESNCM to put intensive effort into fundraising to cover the costs of opening and running an official branch in Nablus.  A substantial grant from the Swiss Drosos Foundation and several other grants allowed the establishment of the Nablus branch in summer 2010, in a refurbished historic building located in Rahbat Street. The branch currently has 120 students.

The Gaza Music School

The A.M. Qattan Foundation established the Gaza Music School project in Gaza City in the summer of 2008, with co-financing from Swedish International Development Cooperation (SIDA).

The School was damaged by an Israeli airstrike during the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip in the winter of that year. However the Foundation worked extremely hard to ensure the continuity of this pioneering project, re-launching the School from its current location, and completing the academic year 2008-2009 successfully.

At the beginning of April 2012, after four years of work and achievement, the A.M. Qattan Foundation handed over the ownership of the Gaza Music School to the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music/Birzeit University, and it became the first branch of the Conservatory in the Gaza Strip.

In the 2015/16 academic year the Gaza Music School has 204 students.

Central Administration - Birzeit Activity Center

Located in the heart of the beautifully preserved historical downtown of Birzeit, and on long-term loan to the Conservatory by Dr. Hanna Nasir, the Activity Center was first opened to ESNCM students in 2006. It consists of a large residential teaching building and a medium-sized concert hall, surrounded by a substantial garden and grounds. The center can accommodate 100 participants and hosts regular activities throughout the year. Orchestral and ensemble concerts are preceded by training and rehearsal sessions at the center, and it also plays host to workshops, master classes and music camps. Students of the Conservatory are often joined by students from other music schools participating in partnership programs around the world. The rehearsal/concert hall is made available to the community by the ESNCM, in order to enhance the cultural, musical and social scene of the area.

From summer 2015 the Birzeit Activity Center also hosts the ESNCM Central Administration offices. The offices of the General Director, as well as the Deputy Directors for Academic Affairs, Development and Public Relations, Administrative and Financial Affairs, and Programs and Concerts, are all now run from the Birzeit Center.
